Tired in ways rest never seems to fix… or how about being too tired to rest? Yes, that is a real thing.
As 2025 came to a close and I entered into 2026, I didn’t make a New Years Resolution. Simply because I don’t believe in them. Not because they are bad, but simply because every day is a fresh day to accomplish what is on your heart. We as women of God are not waiting on the perfect date to begin the next assignment, make the next change or become a “better version” of self. We are opening our hearts daily to the Holy Spirit and what He has to say for that day.
What I have come to realize is that many of us take on things that were never part of the assignment. This is one of the primary causes of burnout. Think about it. 🤔The Lord’s grace is on our lives for the events, people and projects that he chooses for us to take part in. Colossians 3:17 reminds us of this −whatever we do, we should do it unto the Lord and give him thanks. I believe even when we do things unto the Lord, our motive must be pure. You can do something good, and be serving people and God, but if you are doing it for the wrong reasons, the grace of strength may not last. On the other hand, doing things unto the Lord that He has called you to do will result in the grace to complete the assignment.
Motive plays a huge role in things we take on. We as women have an automatic grace to care for our children. He designed us that way. Does this mean He wants us to sign our kids up for five different activities which cause you to run to and fro and stress yourself out? No, that may be want you want for your kids or you trying to keep up with what society and culture is telling you to do to be a “good” parent.
Is it wise to volunteer so much at your church or any other organization for that matter if it causes you to neglect your family or bring undue stress to your home? Absolutely not.
I believe the quiet burnout comes from walking outside of the will of God even when doing “good” things. I personally had to stop taking on everyone else’s emergencies as my own. I had to stop believing God put me here to solve others’ problems. We as women have to be careful because we want to help and fix and nurture, but every season of your life is designed with purpose and that purpose does not always include taking on what God never assigned to you. I admonish you to take some time and sit before the Lord and ask him to show you anything you are participating in that you were never called to do. Then ask him to show you what is best for you at this time. His ways are better than ours and if we lean into him instead of the culture, we will find our rest. The much-needed rest from the big B. Burnout.
If you are a journal girl, and I pray you are… Here is some food for thought to encourage you this week.
After you have your prayer time, ask the following questions of yourself and write them out in your journal:
What am I currently carrying that God never asked me to hold?
Where do I feel emotionally tired — and physically busy?
What would it look like to lay these things down before God instead of pushing through?
What does rest look like for me in this season? Be honest.
